ABOUT

KOKO LAB is born of enthusiasm, from casual meetings between some creative people, who sharing the common passion for some renowned avant-garde brands of italian design like Gavina, SimonGavina, Poltronova and Memphis, whose ambitiously would like to follow in their footsteps. This "Design Modern Factory" is based in Italy when the manufacturing is made too. Through the steady research of new shapes, materials, colours and patterns, the aim is to merge the several visual way of expression, developing unique products (often realized in limited series) whose peculiar elements take their inspiration from several worlds of Art, Architecture, Home Design and Music of course. It?s not only a series of electro-shocking products that have "something more", but it?s a concept to explore and purpose something fresh, multi-coloured, maybe already seen, but never under this creative light, born to upset the previous creative limit imposed from the industrial logic. This is the main rule! The first collection takes inspiration from the "swinging London" most powerful icons. Its objects merge different ways of expressing an evocative, multi-sensorial level, between experimentation and irony. Following this thread an experimental design adventure is born with the eclectic musician & up and coming "neo-pop-art" artist Andy from Bluvertigo that shared his vision with our philosophy, and used his fluo-paints to draw a special textile.

Who's Andy?

FluonAndy was born in Monza, Italy, in 1971.
He obtained his diploma at the Monza School of Art. He went on in Commercial Graphics and Illustration at the Academy of Applied Arts in Milan. Meanwhile he cultivated his interest in music. He studied saxophone, synthesizer (keyboards) and joined a musical project called Bluvertigo, a band lead by Morgan (voice, bass guitar and piano), supported by Sergio Carnevale (drums) and Livio Magnini (guitar), presenting an anglophile sound to the Italian market based on a blend of electronic and played music applied to different "genres".
He loves Pop Art and he paints big fluorescent pictures on canvas, he composes soundtracks for contemporary dance and theatre, he mixes 80's Wave music as a dj in clubs and squares, he tries his hand as a co-presenter of two Mtv programs.
Always keeping the same point of view: the "reset (turn off and then on again)" or his ideal concept, his zero grade of creativity is continually in search of different contexts to contaminate.
Besides personal and collective exhibitions, also in clubs, his painting is, today, commissioned and applied to industrial sectors, including those of fashion and advertising. After years of tours, tv shows and work for record companies, Andy now presents himself as an eclectic figure trying to combine different ways of expression. His versatility has allowed an immediate feeling with members of Koko Lab, who asked him to share his vision with their philosophy.

Andy's painting is an Lsd painting on canvass. It is a visionary flight, without parachute, through a parallel reality that resembles the known one, but does not reproduces it. The young artist from Brianza starts from daily landscapes – from street furniture, from corners he continuously hangs out at and perfectly knows, from friends' faces and even too famous, hair-sprayed and sometimes indigestible characters, directly coming from the star-system and from the gummy world of cartoons – to get soon to an acid, deformed, psychedelic universe where landscapes and presences are of hallucinatory character, where vibrations and vertigo have taken the place of tranquillity, reiterating action and safety. As in a recreated world, seen through special 3D glasses (in which exploded and resounding colours cubistically give volume to the image) the horizon shades turn out to be changed and aggressive, the contours of faces and objects appear nervous and syncopated, the perspective frames are uncertain, elusive and they twist, colours exaggerate.
